6th December: Talk on the Oil industry and climate change

News of the Christmas Lecture for the East Midlands group of the Geological Society, with an oil and climate change theme…

On Monday 6th December at 6pm, Professor Bryan Lovell will give a lecture entitled ‘Challenged by Carbon: The Oil Industry and Climate Change’. It will take place at 6.00pm in Lecture Theatre 1 of the Bennett Building (or the “Rattray Lecture theatre” – check on the night!), University of Leicester.

Earth scientists have long been leading actors in oil exploration and production. They now have additional roles to play in the petroleum industry. One of these new responsibilities is setting out clearly to the widest possible audience the geological arguments for controlling the release of carbon to the atmosphere by human use of fossil fuels.

Programme:

  • 5.30pm Tea and biscuits outside Lecture Theatre 1
  • 6.00pm Lecture followed by question and answer session
