A new Green Directory, which maps the burgeoning activity by communities across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to work locally for a better environment was launched on Thursday May 26th 2011.
To view the directory, click here: http://www.ruralcc.org.uk/green-directory
The directory lists hundreds of local community groups, projects and organisations that are helping the region work towards a more sustainable future and demonstrates the huge increase in local activity on this issue in recent years.
The groups and projects listed include over 30 local green community groups, such as Sustainable Billesdon and Transition Rutland, community allotment projects, annual green events, recycling schemes, low-carbon travel projects and much more.
It was launched at the Sharing our Stories event, on Thursday May 26th at De Montfort University, Leicester, and can be viewed online on the RCC website http://www.ruralcc.org.uk/green-directory. A limited number of free printed copies are available on request.
The directory has been produced through a student internship scheme at the RCC, with De Montfort University Media and Communications student Katherine Lawson working alongside Andrew Reeves from the Communities Cutting Carbon project.
The Communities Cutting Carbon project is a collaboration between the RCC, De Montfort University and each of the local authorities in the local area: Leicestershire County Council, Rutland County Council, Leicester City Council, and the district and borough councils of Charnwood, Harborough, Hinckley and Bosworth, Oadby and Wigston, Melton, Blaby and North West Leicestershire.
