Green Light Festival Open Coordination Meeting Tuesday 24th January – ALL WELCOME!

5pm for 5.30 start – the Blue Room in Queens Building of De Montfort University (on the first floor of Queens Building, at the end of the wobbly glass walkway then it’s the door on the right opposite the ladies toilets – call if you get lost!).

We, the organisers of the budding new Green Light Festival of Sustainability, would like to extend to you an invitation to join one of our core group meetings. With only three months till the big day (Sat 31st March), we’ve lots of exciting things to do and dreaming to distribute between our somewhat humble team of organisers.

We’ve drawn up a list of things we’d love to happen, and we’re open to suggestions from people who might be able to contribute in an organisers’ capacity. So if you’ve got the skills and the interest to help us out a bit, please come along and see what we’ve been up to and what’s ahead!

Call Jessie on 07969256046 or email jessicamarycooke@yahoo.co.uk to let us know you’d like to attend or for more information. Look forward to seeing you there!

Green Light Festival 2012 – Open Meeting NEXT MONDAY!

Swap shop to become a regular event at Green Light Cafe

After the success of the Riverside Festival this weekend, we’ve decided to finally put our feet where our mouths are (is that the expression?) and make the Green Light Swap Shop a regular event!

We’ll be kick starting it again at the next Green Light Café 12-4pm on Saturday 18th June at the Bishop St Methodist Church on Town Hall Square, so it would be great to see as many of you there as possible to get some good quality swapping!

Bring along any old clothes, books, music, CDs, seeds, kitchen equipment, jewellery, toys, games… (you get the picture!) and swap them for something from the abundant pile of things we have on offer – you’ll be sure to pick up some goodies!

From then on it will be a more or less monthly event so it’s worth donating what you have and coming back another month if there’s nothing you want.

PLUS, the cafe’s a great lark! This month’s theme is Strawberries and there’s always delicious home made veggie and vegan food for a wonderfully small fee, a talk on strawberries, and a craft activity of some kind. There are always lots of friendly people around and it’s a great way to find out more about the Green Light Festival, or any other Transition Leicester projects and how you could get involved.

RIVERSIDE FESTIVAL Sat 4th and Sun 5th June!!!

RIVERSIDE FESTIVAL IS NEXT WEEKEND!

Saturday 4th 12noon – 8.00pm & Sunday 5th 12noon – 5.00pm

Come down to one of Leicester’s biggest free festivals on Bede Park and see what’s on offer! There’s loads of great acts, stalls, music, food and workshops to get involved in!

Transition Leicester and Green Light Festival are holding a stall in the Eco Village, where we’ll be doing:

  • SWAP SHOP (with lots of new stuff!) where you can bring any old clothes, books, DVDs, kitchen equipment or music to trade in for new things (or make a donation if you haven’t got anything to swap)
  • free workshops MAKING PURSES out of recycled juice cartons
  • CARBON FOOTPRINT calculations with practical tips on how to reduce your impact

Green Light 2012 – Next Planning Meeting 27th June

We’re already cracking on with the planning for the 2012 Green Light Festival and things are already getting well underway! There are opportunities for people to get involved in the organisation process, so if you’ve got organisational skills, enthusiasm, ideas or contacts that could be of use then why not come along and share them with us!

We’d also still welcome feedback from last time and suggestions for this time, suggestions from groups that want to have a stall or run a workshop… ideas for ‘headline act’ !

The next meeting’s Monday 27th June in the Queens Building at DMU (where the festival was), hope to see you there!
