Buy a share in the Transition Leicester Apple Press, and make your own apple juice!
As part of the Transition Leicester Apple Day we have bought an apple press and pasteuriser.
If you have apple trees which produce so much that most of the fruit go to waste each year – or know of apples which aren’t being eaten – then this is a wonderful way to have fun making your apple juice for the year, celebrating local apples, and reducing your use of imported juice in tetra packs and plastic bottles.
A share in the press costs £45 (£15 if your household is on a benefit-level income) and entitles you to use the press for two days in the apple season each year.
Once pasturised, the apple juice will keep for a year and still be far more delicious than anything you can buy. So now is your chance to start making your own and start planning fantastic juice making parties! We hope the idea will take off until we have many presses in Leicester and everyone and their friends are planting fruit trees and making their own juice, so please spread the word.
The purpose of the Transition Leicester food group who have organised this press is to move us to a world where food is grown locally, so obviously we want the fruit pressed to be grown in Leicestershire!
